What does your rental need?

Renting means solving problems without a drill, without permanent changes, and ideally without a monthly subscription. Start with the one that's bugging you.

No-drill video doorbells, indoor cameras, portable door locks and leak sensors - security that doesn't void a tenancy agreement.

💡

Smart Home

Smart plugs, bulbs and sensors that work in a rental and move out with you - with honest notes on subscriptions and hubs.

💨

Air & Damp

Dehumidifiers for drying clothes indoors, air purifiers, CO2 monitors and dealing with condensation in UK flats.

No-Drill DIY

No-drill blinds, adhesive shelving, removable wallpaper and the starter tools every flat actually needs.

How we choose what to recommend

The same three-step process behind every guide on the site.

  1. Apply the renter test

No drilling, no permanent changes, no landlord permission needed, and it comes with you when you move. If a product fails the renter test, it doesn't make the list - however good it is.

  2. Research the shortlist

We compare manufacturer specifications, verified owner feedback and independent reviews, and we cite the sources we rely on. Subscription requirements are always stated up front.

  3. Check UK availability and live prices

Every recommendation links to a real UK listing, and prices shown on our guides are pulled live from the retailer rather than typed in and left to go stale.

Why Renter Upgrades?

Most home improvement advice assumes you own the walls. We assume you don't.

The renter test, always

No-drill, removable, deposit-safe - checked before anything else gets considered.

Subscription honesty

Running costs and paywalled features stated up front, on every product.

Live UK prices

Prices on our guides come from the retailer at the moment you load the page.

Q01Can I fit a video doorbell in a rented flat?
Usually yes - battery doorbells with no-drill mounts (adhesive plates or door-frame brackets) need no wiring and no holes. Communal entrances are the complication: check your tenancy agreement and building rules before pointing a camera at a shared hallway.
Q02What actually helps with condensation and damp?
Ventilation first, then a properly sized dehumidifier - a compressor model for most flats, a desiccant model for cold rooms. Our air guides size them by room and habit (drying clothes indoors is the big one) rather than by marketing claims.
Q03Do smart plugs need a hub?
Most current Wi-Fi smart plugs don't - they connect straight to your router and work with the maker's app. Some ecosystems still want a hub for automation or energy features; every guide states which camp a product is in before you buy.
Q04Will adhesive shelves and hooks really hold?
On clean tile, glass and smooth painted walls, good adhesive systems hold impressive weight; on textured or freshly painted walls they can fail or lift paint - which costs you a deposit deduction. Our no-drill guides state surface-by-surface what's safe.
